Dolphins

The title of this news article says it all. A Ukrainian drunk escapes dolphin gang drowning attempt in the Black Sea.

But what really made me giggle was the statement below. And do the dolphins really enjoy their "love" reputation? I guess the poorer nations get assigned the mean dolphins? Wealthy nations get the cuddly ones? roll eyes

Maybe the strange phrasing was caused by a bad translation from Russian to English. But it is amusing.

[This] latest dolphin outrage is classic Black Sea dolphin behaviour according to Interfax, the Russian news agency. The mammals "lack the reputation of friendliness and love of humans enjoyed by dolphins in wealthy nations".

This news story provides additional information. Turns out the Ukrainian man (who was drunk) believes (like some other Ukrainians) that swimming in cold water is healthy. The water was 39 to 42 Fahrenheit. That is chilly.

The dolphins were trying to push the man out to sea... and away from their fishing.

And here is a weird little story that I missed from December 2006. Food has become political. The Odessa orphanages sure could have used the food.

Directors at four children’s homes in the Ukrainian city of Odessa refused to accept oranges from benefactors as New Year gifts for the children. Orange has become the symbol of the Ukrainian opposition led by presidential contender Viktor Yushchenko.

And last but not least.. The vampire blood-pumping Satanist of Odessa Ukraine was caught drinking blood again.

Diana Semenuha was arrested in March 2005.

She kept the [street] children intoxicated on drugs and alcohol and bled them regularly, selling the surplus to other black magic practitioners. When that weakened them, she dumped them back on the streets and lured replacements with the promise of a place to sleep and a hot meal.

Diana was found guilty of encouraging minors to use illegal drugs. Her sentence was 2 years of jail time. However she was released "conditionally" and didn't serve any jail time. I guess she was on probation?

Jan 2006, Diana was arrested again for taking blood from minors. Sounds like she got them drunk on vodka first. I wonder if she got any jail time.. this time?
