Cool Stuff by www fg-a com

I am continuing to list the places to find information and photos on Ukrainian specialized orphanages and internats.

(Note: I am use the “cool stuff” photo because these bloggers are doing very cool things.)

Amber has a short piece about visiting Yolichka. This is a baby orphanage in the Crimean, but since they have AIDs babies, I counted them as specialized.

Next a visit to Donetsk…. I am pretty certain that Makievka = Makiivka. This is an AIDS orphanage.

Workers with Mission Ukraine, a church-supported ministry, first met the orphans in 2001 in a cold orphanage with 247 broken windows. Mission Ukraine repaired the windows and hosted a summer camp to introduce the orphans and the facility’s staff to Petrovsky church members. Seven families at Petrovsky have taken in 20 foster children, and the congregation houses additional orphans

……….

[church] members also visit another orphanage, Makievka, and pick up children for weekend foster care.

Sarah from Michigan visited an internat orphanage in Bucha (Kyiv oblast) Ukraine. It sounds like she had a lot of fun with the kids. One child (learning Spanish in school) communicated with Sarah in Spanish.

Sarah mentions the children’s toilets were awful but doesn’t describe the problem in detail. They were probably squat toilets. And Sarah probably experienced a very ripe smell and grime. The older buildings have the small 1/4 pipes and the smell hangs around.

Kharkiv regional specialized orphanage #1 has some pictures on the internet. The web site hasn’t been updated since 2004.
