Karst italy limestone dissolution

I have been thinking a lot about Ukrainian dissolutions recently.

NOTE: Once a Ukrainian adoption is finalized it isn’t a disruption.

The case of an adoptive family returning an adopted boy (Sasha) to a Ukrainian Psychiatric Hospital focused some attention on this.

The Duluth News Tribune has published some follow up articles on Sasha’s story. Sasha is his Ukrainian name. It was changed when he was adopted.

(You will have to register to read the articles. It is free.)

No place for Sasha?

End of Sasha’s second chance

Running out of answers

Timeline lists dates and events.

The current status is

Jan. 16, 2007: A disposition hearing is scheduled to determine what should happen next to Sasha.

From: Timeline

But here is what caught my attention… There were 2 letters to the editor on the Duluth News Tribune articles.

And they bring up interesting points.

‘Sasha’ series invaded child’s privacy

I am reading with dismay the News Tribune’s three-part series about Sasha

………

To what purpose does this coverage serve? Is there nothing better happening in the world that is considered newsworthy? Not to mention: How intrusive and what a violation of a person’s privacy.

And then there is this:

‘Sasha’ stories discourage prospective adoptions

Just what was News Tribune’s purpose in making front-page news three days in a row about an orphaned boy from the Ukraine

….

This I see as pure selfishness in order to sell newspapers.

What effect must this coverage have on our social services systems working to find stable homes for children lost in a world of drugs, divorce, abandonment and violence?

……….

Every child is born “good.” Let’s hear about the brave people who have adopted the ones for whom life is far too challenging.

What exploitation of this Ukrainian child! What right to privacy does he have?
