I posted back in December 2006 that the Ukrainian adoption had become much more difficult. And the SDA was limiting singles to adopting children 7 or older. And the SDA refused to take dossiers from single men.

Then in Jan 2007 the SDA refused to take dossiers from single women.

March 20 2007 it got worse. Ukraine has just passed a bill making single foreign adoption illegal. Single Ukrainian citizens will still be able to adopt.

I am single and adopted in 2000. And right now I am hearing the push behind making single adoption illegal... It is because single foreigners are thought to be homosexual. And it probably relates to the John Krueger case.

This modification to Ukrainian adoption law will likely go into effect around May 2007 after the second reading.

Older parents will still be allowed to adopt from Ukraine. However they will be restricted to adopting older children. I am hearing the difference in age between the oldest parent and child must be 45 years or less.

In other words a 50 year old parent can adopt a child 5 years or older.

Deputies will change the procedure of the adoption of the children

Supreme Rada accepted in first reading of the bill about the introduction of changes in some legislative acts of the Ukraine (relative to adoption).

As transmits the correspondent OF UNIAN after they voted 239 of 247 people deputies, registered in the hall.

And the bill supplements the family code of the Ukraine by the position, which provided, that the difference at the age between the adopter and the child cannot be more than 45 years.

The adoption of the child, who is the citizen of the Ukraine, cannot be achieved by the foreign person, who does not consist of the marriage.
