I wrote about
single men and women adopting from Ukraine a couple of weeks ago. Things aren't looking good for singles...
According to Ukrainian family law (
as it exists now - Article 213 of the current Family Code), married families are given preference over single men and women. This isn't a new law. And the law actually states that if 2 families want to adopt the same child... the married couple gets the child.
But the NAC (past adoption authority) and the SDA (current adoption authority) have used this section to delay giving single parent's appointments. Basically singles were put on the bottom of the appointment list.
Now the SDA has thought about it again... And they are limiting single men and women to adopting children 7 years or older.

So far I have only seen single woman getting appointments. Hopefully the single men are getting them too.
I haven't heard anything new about the bill to make single Ukrainian adoption illegal. It may not pass.... I am still waiting to see.
