I really appreciate Scottish football fans now. :) They can do amazing things. Stevie Carr and Mark Strachan have created a new Scottish charity called The Dnipro Appeal.

Stevie has a series of emails that explains how this charity came to be.

Here are some news article on the charity.

FANS who raised thousands of pounds for an orphanage in the Ukraine are to set up their own charity to ensure long-term support for the children.

The idea of helping the orphanage, on the outskirts of the city of Dnipropetrovsk, came from supporter Steve Carr after Tony Mowbray's side were drawn against the Ukrainian outfit in the UEFA Cup.

Within days more than £5000 was raised allowing the supporters to hand over winter clothing and shoes for the youngsters in addition to medical and sports equipment, televisions and even basic supplies such as soap, toothpaste and bedsheets when they travelled to back Hibs at the end of September.

It may be almost a month since we celebrated Christmas, but two Scottish football fans are determined to bring some belated festive cheer to an orphanage in Ukraine. Hibernian supporters Stevie Carr and Colin Dudgeon were shocked at the conditions that the youngsters were living in, when they visited the country last year. Now, they are preparing to return to Ukraine, with clothes, toys and sports equipment

Last September over 1,000 Hibs supporters followed their team to the Ukraine city of Dnipropetrovsk. Tony Mowbray's team lost 5-1, but the trip turned out to be about more than just football for many HiBees. Stevie Carr and Colin Dudgeon had discovered that many children living in the City's orphanage were going without even basic necessities and so decided to help out, by taking warm clothes, toys and even medical supplies to the youngsters. Now they are returning to the country, with more of the same.

Colin Dudgeon said: "A few of us that were in the Orphanage that day took a wee step outside just to pull themselves together - it was a very emotional time and we're just delighted we can help these kids in terms of the circumstances they find themselves in."

BIG-HEARTED Hibs fans are to "adopt" another Ukrainian orphanage as the money continues to flood in ten months after Tony Mowbray's side faced Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in the UEFA Cup.

What had been intended as a one-off donation to help stricken kids at the Predniprovsk Tuberculosis Children's Centre has mushroomed, leading to the Dnipro Appeal being registered as a charity in Scotland.

..................

Now, though, Carr and the others involved in running the charity, are looking to expand the help they are delivering.

He said: "There are at least six or seven other orphanages in Dnipropetrovsk. Three or four of them are well looked after by other charities but we have identified one we feel needs help.

"Around £14,000 has come in since last September and at the moment we have £6000 in our account. We'll be going much along the same lines as when we first started but we are hoping to start a sponsor a child scheme under which by paying a direct debit of £10 each month people over here can help look after an individual child and get regular up-dates as to their progress.

"Initially, though, it will again be providing clothing, footwear and other basic necessities while continuing our support for the Predniprovsk Centre."

Oh yes... there is a lot of excitement about the Ukraine World Cup win over Saudi Arabia. I have to post some of the news articles on it.

I was laughing to myself yesterday. The sports writers made it sound like the Ukrainian players were very surprised that they were winning during the first half of the game.
