The SDA during the July 3 press conference mentioned the following nationalities have registered dossiers.

• 350 Spain


• 119 Italy


• 108 France


• 1 Belgium


• 1 Mexico


• 1 Portugal


• 1 Slovenia


• 1 Croatia

This is 972 out of 1,200 registered dossiers. The remaining dossiers probably belong to Israeli, Irish, German, Swedish, Swiss, Canadian or Dutch families.

The SDA while organizing the dossiers found a few from 2003. So they asked all registered families to send an "application letter" if they wish to continue with their adoption.

During the July 3 press conference the "application letter" was discussed.

Only original, notarized and apostilled applications, accompanied by a Ukrainian translation, will be accepted.

The US Embassy in Kyiv sent out sample English and Ukrainian "application letters". Families need to fill both of them in. And US residents need to get them notarized and apostilled. I have heard that both English and Ukrainian translations need to be notarized and apostilled. But then I heard only the English letter needed to be notarized and apostilled.

I have heard that some families are filling out the English version and paying to have it translated into Ukrainian. Then the translator is mailing it to the SDA.

And I have heard families are just filling in the English and Ukrainian and mailing them to the SDA.
