I started listing some of the Ukrainian Adoption Reunion/Heritage events. And then I mentioned reasons why I attend these events.

Discovery Weekend

What: This is a sleepover camp. It is for teenagers (12-17 years of age) who were adopted internationally or transracially.

When: May 31 to June 3, 2007

Where: Camp Carter YMCA in Fort Worth Texas

Ukraine Embassy in Washington DC's Adoptive Family Weekend

What: For the last 3 years (This is the 4th year.) the Ukrainian Embassy has sponsored an adoptive family weekend. The Ukrainian National Association (UUA) was another sponsor.

You can read about 2006's weekend. The Embassy hasn't provided any information about the 2007 weekend yet.

When: June 15 to June 17, 2007

Where: Soyuzivka Resort in Kerhonkson New York

Cost: Cost of room rental and your food. The activities are free.

Families For International Children's Eastern European Camp

What: This is day camp that includes opportunities for parents to socialize. The campers are kindergarten through 6th grade.
But they also have a teenager camp for older children.

In the 2006 camp children painted matryoshka (nested) dolls, put on a play, played on the playground and explored Eastern European holidays.

When: June 19 to June 22, 2007

Where: Knapp Forest Elementary School in Grand Rapid Michigan

Cost: It is $105 for teenagers and $90 for the younger children. Parents must be a member of Families For International Children. This costs an additional $15 per year.

Hands Around The World's Eastern European Camp


What: Children must be 5 years or older. It sounds like a day camp. Activities include cooking, crafts, etc... Children will explore the Beauty of Eastern Europe.

They also have a different camp for teenagers.

When: July 16 to July 20, 2007

Where: Roselle, Illinois

Cost: Unknown...

Ukrainian Heritage Day Camps

What: This is a day camp for 4 to 7 year old children. They learn about the Ukrainian language and culture.

When: Session 1 is July 15 to July 20, 2007. Session 2 is July 22 to July 27, 2007. It starts at 9:15am and ends at 1:30pm

Where: Soyuzivka Resort in Kerhonkson New York

Cost: $150 per child if staying at the Soyuzivka Resort. $190 per child if they aren't rooming at the Soyuzivka Resort.

Russian/Eastern European/Central Asian (REECA) Heritage Camp


What: This is a family camp. The children are 3 to 18 years of age. Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Family Friends can all attend with the child. Adults can attend classes, but relaxing is always on the schedule.

And childcare is provided for children under 3 years of age.

When: July 19th to July 22nd, 2007

Where: YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch in Fraser Colorado

Cost: Unknown... You will need to email Colorado Heritage Camps.
