The LA Times published a funny, snarky, obnoxious, nasty [fill in your own adjective] article titled How to Shop for Kids the Brangelina Way. It is suppose to be a sarcastic article aimed at Jolie. She made a comment that that she and Pitt are "looking at different countries" for their next adopted child. Of course, she just gave birth. And Brad hasn't adopted her 2 children yet. Jolie is getting way ahead of herself.

This blog calls the article obnoxious but useful.

This blogger was "horrified" and hopes the newspaper apologizes. She also recommends watching a documentary titled Flesh and Blood. It is about a single mom who adopted many special needs children. Maybe 11? Hmmm... sounds interesting.

This woman's "brain is oozing shocked yellow pudding."

This woman called it funny.

At least get to know the ones [children] you have--and let them get to bond with each other--before you "buy" another one! The Los Angeles Times has a bit of a snarky commentary/article titled "How To Shop For Kids The Bangelina Way." Funny.

The news article quotes 3 data sources; Children's Hope International, U.S. Department of State, Adoptive Families magazine. The article listed various countries and their international adoption requirements.

Adoptive Families magazine is just a little testy about being used for the article. But any data you put on the web is available to everyone. Anyway they have asked:

making yourself heard [about how offensive this article is] by writing to readers.rep@latimes.com, where you can lodge complaints about the "journalistic standards" of a writer, or sending a general letter to the LA Times editors: letters@latimes.com.

I know how they put together the article. The top 6 countries for adoptions are (from the US State Department's web site):

China
Russia
Guatemala
South Korea
Ukraine
Kazakhstan

The article quoted international adoption requirements for:

China
Russia
South Korea
Ukraine
Kazakhstan

I am curious why they didn't use Guatemala in their list. The article was offensive because it treats children like objects to be bought and sold.

The sad part is that children have been bought and sold in all the countries of the world. At this point I am talking about the human trafficking (used to be known as slavery).

And at least 2 of the countries (Guatemala and Ukraine) had all adoptions shut down due to scandals in baby selling.

Maybe that is why it is so offensive.
