My daughter, Natasha, and I went to see
The Nativity Story a few weeks ago. We talked a little bit about it after the movie.
But I didn't realize the true impact of the film until the Sunday after the film.
I am a volunteer in the Sunday children's program at church. I am the cat header for the 3rd grade class (
also know as guide.. I guide the children around during the church year :)) ).
The workshop leader does the teaching.
Anyway, the workshop leader asked a small herd of 3rd graders a question. What are the different names or labels for Jesus? My darling daughter pops up quickly with, "destroyer".
The workshop leader gets this stunned look on her face.
"Nooooo.... Jesus is not named destroyer."
Natasha asked, "What about Herod?"

The workshop leader should have probably quit at this point. But she just had to ask, "What about Herod?"
Natasha said, "Herod was afraid of him. And killed all those babies. Jesus was going to break his kingdom.
And other people [Joseph and Mary] were afraid of him because everything was going to change.... You know.. things were different. They had a baby."
Natasha didn't see the "destroyer" label as negative.
My darling's thought processes constantly keep me on my toes.
