Crying

I really hate this story. I have been sitting on it since it came out on April 4, 2007.

I haven’t blogged about it because it makes me sad. I knew John Krueger via email. I thought he was one of the good guys.

The reality… John is a convicted child molester. He hurt at least 4 children.

John is a 53 year old single man who lives in California. His first Ukrainian adoption was in 2001. I think his second Ukrainian adoption was in 2003.

John was accused of molesting his 3 sons and a family friend in December 2005. All 4 children were adopted from Ukraine. They were between 9 and 11 years of age.

John was charged with molesting 4 boys in April 2006. His 3 adopted sons were moved into foster care.

Back in December 2006, I posted that John was found guilty of molesting 3 boys. The 4th boy refused to testify against John.

John was sentenced to 75 years in prison on April 4 2007.

Deputy District Attorney John Lua (he prosecuted John) stated that Ukraine tried to make single parent adoption illegal because of this case.

Ukraine’s draft law #2562 would have made single adoption illegal and set age restrictions on adoptive parents. But it is dead (for now) because of Ukraine’s political unrest.

Lanette over at the Foster Care blog has a series about Testifying For Your Foster Child. I read the series and forgot it until I read the news article on John’s sentencing.

The abused boys’ foster families made victim impact statements at the sentencing hearing. I am willing to bet that this had a direct impact on John’s sentence.

John was denied probation. He must serve 63.75 years before he is eligible for parole.

53 years of age + 63.75 years = dying in prison from old age

It turns out that John’s parental rights have not been removed yet. So visitation rights were also denied during the hearing on Wednesday. And he was ordered to pay for his victims’ therapy.

John plans on appealing the sentence but so far he has lost all appeals.

There is a news video about the sentencing. It contains the same information as the print news article.
