Some days are like Penguins on Grass... They aren't bad but rather slightly weird. I have had a slighly weird month. First I went to an Ukrainian Adoption Reunion (loved it) in Omaha. Then I had my involuntary Internet vacation because my computer became overheated and died.

It got too hot because I went to Omaha over the weekend.... I left my computer on and turned my thermostat up. I have a programmable thermostat which allows me to save money by turning up or down the temperature when no one is home.

I really (NOT) saved money alright. I had to replace my computer.

Then out of the blue I got a job offer. I was flattered that someone had tracked me down. But it felt slightly weird too. Normally I have to hunt for jobs. I rarely had jobs find me.

And my darling Natasha started school this month. I had an opportunity to get her into a mixed age class with 3rd and 4th grade. (She is in 3rd grade.) There are 2 rooms connected with 50 children and 2 teachers. Natasha loves her class room. She loves her teachers. She is in seven heaven.

I know that many folks are torn by the pros and cons of telling the teacher their child is adopted. I always tell because Natasha generally talks about it. I know that many children stopped talking about their adoption when they are around 7 years or so...

But my darling doesn't. I figure out a few years ago why. Natasha uses her adoption story as a way of joining/searching. She is looking for children who have more then 1 father or mother. She is looking for someone like her. She found her best friend in first grade this way.

And because I told, I found out Natasha's teacher is an adoptive parent. She and her husband are in the process of adopting a second child. What a small world.

(pause while I check into the temperature... it is really hot)

Penguins on grass... It just gets better and better. My air conditioning is broken. Something new to deal with on Friday. Ugh!

And I need to catch up with news... It looks like the October appointment dates still haven't been published.

And only 25 Americans have appointments for September? The number seems too low. More about that on Friday....

Edited to add on 8/25/06: Air conditioning is FIXED. One night of sleeping without it was more then enough for me.
