Ukraine Adoption Blogroll

My favorite blogs from 1997 to 2005 are found here and include some single adoptive parent blogs. This blogroll will contain recent 2006 and 2007 Ukrainian adoption blogs. I will try to update it once a week (or more if I find interesting blogs).

The date/time stamp on this blog will indicate when it was updated. If I add a link or a family's status changes, I will mark it with *NEW*.

I was asked for older adoption blogs and blogs written by single parents. Here is a brief list of my favorites.

Adoption of Denis Tho - August 1997 (10 year old Ukrainian/Korean child)

Cathy Harris' First Adoption - Feb 1998 (single mom)

Cathy Harris' Second Adoption - August 1998 (single mom)

Stop Sign

Ukraine stopped accepting new dossiers some time between March 27 and April 1, 2007. And the US Embassy in Kyiv confirmed this shutdown on April 5. The April 5 email is at the bottom of this post for reference.

The email confirms what German adoptive families and Mike from Virginia Beach said.

Families who are in Ukraine can continue to process their adoptions. And dossier processing has slowed down. SDAPRC... more

Sleeping Smiley Face

President’s decree on dissolving the parliament published today. So now it is the law of the land. The current parliament is no more.

I did an informal poll of a few Ukrainians. And I checked in with a Russian who lives in the United States. None of them were concerned or worked up over Ukraine's political unrest.

It wasn't that they were indifferent. This power... more

I have been enjoying Aaron's blog about his pending Ukrainian adoption. He and his wife are adopted a 2 year old and 15 year old. I am reading between the lines... it looks like Becky (the wife) did missionary work in Ukraine and met the children at an orphanage.

Their SDA appointment date is March 14, 2007.

I want to share a blog that is new to me. Markus Wolf has been living as a missionary in Ukraine for over a year now.

He has run a summer camp for orphans in Uzhgorod and has a great sense of humor.

July 15 2006

Imagine if this happened to you. You’ve been assigned to lead a camp of 90 gypsy orphans, but you can’t speak their language, and few of them can speak yours. You want to run a program to meet as many of their needs as possible, but they range in age from maybe 6 to 18.... more

The Conrad Family adopted 2 girls in December 2006. The girls are 4 years old and 2.5 years old. They don't mention if they are siblings or not.

While in Ukraine they ran into another family who is adopted a boy and girl; 3 years old and 2 years old.

The Conrads were in Ukraine 5.5 weeks.

The Stewart family just completed their adoption.

Here is an important tidbit. For anyone who is returning through the Amsterdam Airport with their Ukrainian adopted child. The child is a Ukrainian citizen (won't become a US citizen until they touch US soil) and needs a visa to leave the airport (which you won't be able to quickly get).

Because of the flight times (layover is long), typically you can check into a hotel and rest. But again... you have the visa... more

I stopped posting links to blogs in November because the brouhaha over hosted children.

Hosting programs were almost shutdown. Some government officials believe the hosting programs were trafficking children.

Just use the phrase "trafficking children" around a Ukrainian politican and he will get twitchy. This is due to the past baby... more

Red Army Cemetery Sighet Romania

Sighet Romania is Elie Wiesel’s 1928 birthplace with around 40,000 people. And it is very close to the Ukrainian border, which is how I found this blog. I was searching for "Ukraine adopted".

It doesn't directly link to Ukrainian adoption. But it was amusing to read. It is written by a Canadian named Matt who studies at Oxford.

Read this blog, to see how Matt accidentally... more
